The bizarre trial balloon that has been floated on granting amnesty to former government contractor Booz Allen employee turned NSA leaker Edward Snowden is one of two things, a sign of a desperate rogue intelligence agency that knows the worst is yet to come or most likely a trap. During a slick public relations piece on CBS’s 60 Minutes that provide an “unprecedented” look inside the facilities of the American Stasi a national audience was fed talking points and propaganda from America’s ‘most trusted’ news program. This is the same program what just got caught airing a shameless and likely planted segment on a shocking inside account of the 2012 attack U.S. embassy in Benghazi that resulted in the death of Ambassador Christopher Stephens and millions of dollars of taxpayer money pissed away by the oily Darrell Issa. That story was revealed to be a total fabrication, the insider ‘Sgt. Morgan Jones’ was a complete liar hawking a book through a CBS publishing subsidiary and the ‘journalist’ Lara Logan had myriad conflicts of interest the foremost being a husband that used to be a psy ops specialist in Iraq. Being what it is in The Homeland in late 2013 the nationally televised NSA infomercial was just more bullshit from a thoroughly tainted venue that may have once been America’s ‘most trusted’ news program but now only the skeletal remains of that prior incarnation.
With the leaks continuing, many of them very embarrassing and having nothing to do with stopping terrorism (infiltrating video games and trolling porn sites) the NSA Stasi is desperate to get some sort of tourniquet applied to stop the bleeding. The choice seems to be a media offensive much like the great “Surge” of then General David Petraeus that would turn the Iraq war around and a similar strategy was adapted and applied to spinning the ongoing bailout of the Wall Street gamblers who blew a hole in the economy when Federal Reserve Chairman Ben Bernanke appeared on 60 Minutes to tout the “green shoots” of recovery. As proclaimed by the late P.T. Barnum “there is a sucker born every minute” and the corrupt establishment and their even more unprincipled and on the take state-corporate media, fully realizing this have integrated it into their playbook.
With their ability to paint Snowden as some sort of traitor or Chinese/Russian spy only selling with the usual idiot demographic to this point failing, he was after all Time Magazine’s runner-up for Person of the Year and Rolling Stone Magazine’s end of the year issue features an excellent story on both he and journalist Glenn Greenwald entitled The Men Who Leaked the Secrets a new angle is needed. With the unconstitutional surveillance activities of the NSA already being protected by a thoroughly in the bag congress and Obama’s Cass Sunstein/Richard Clarke led whitewash committee the agency itself needs to go on a charm offensive. There is still the need to win the battle of public opinion so that Americans are made to accept paying for their own enslavement as well as tech giants who have suffered grievous damage to their cloud computing businesses because they are unable to provide adequate security given the amount of government spying. This will be overcome because Americans are for the most part sheep with short attention spans and businesses being corporations can always be bought off or special operating advantages carved out within the law. The real problem is Snowden.
So in the most interesting development by date it is being fed into the media that there are some within the NSA who are considering granting Mr. Snowden some sort of amnesty for the return of whatever information that he has taken. There are claims that exactly what was purloined and how much is yet unknown but this is likely hogwash. I would suspect that the NSA knows EXACTLY what else that Snowden took and it terrified of the potential of the really bad stuff coming out. After all, what has to this point been divulged can be largely explained away as a post September 11, 2001 attempt to ensure that America would never be attacked again, just good intentions gone bad and without oversight went a bit too far. It would be easy to put some lipstick on that pig, wrap a flag around it and just move on to more important matters like starting a war with Iran, the NFL playoffs or who is on the next season of Dancing With the Stars. But what is likely is that what is still out there, which has already been labeled as a “doomsday cache” includes many NSA programs (or more likely contractor programs so as to provide the agency plausible deniability) that are geared towards industrial espionage, facilitating the laundering of drug money through the big banks, political sexual blackmail, intelligence for foreign and domestic hit squads and Christ only knows what else.
This government absolutely cannot be trusted and I am sure that Mr. Snowden knows this which is more likely an attempt to lead him into a trap and back onto U.S. soil where given the eviscerated state of the U.S. Constitution would face torture and imprisonment.
Nice try by the establishment but they have already showed that they lie about absolutely everything.
